A Sandbox for Syra

This weekend my Dad got down and dirty digging a hole to put Syra's new sandbox in for her. We used the old fish pond liner for the sandbox, it is perfect it is big and you can sit on the side and play with her. So we now have a sandbox to play in ladies and gents! Next step thing I want to do is get the swing up! Here are a few photos....

Spring Scarf

Well I figured I would knit another scarf for Syra since she keeps going in the closet and pulling all of mine out and wearing them around the house. So here is a shot of her wearing her new scarf

Updates on Syra

Well in the last 5 days Syra has become VERY talkative. She has added a ton of new sounds to her "toddler garbble", but she has learned all Done, Down, Dog, No and Stop. haha probably because I am running around after her saying no stop that or no don't touch that or stop and put that down or something to that nature. So now every question is answered with shaking of the head and no, even if she means yes she is saying no.

She has also showed interest in the toilet so we bought her the a little elmo toilet seat topper that she can sit on and not fall into the toilet. I asked her the other day, since I noticed she was "getting ready to poop" so I asked her if she wanted to use the toilet, she walked into the bathroom and pointed to the toilet, so I guess we are making progress right?

She has learned most of the parts on the face, eyes, cheeks, eyebrows, forehead, chin, lips, teeth, mouth, ears, tongue, hair. So we are now moving on down the body, she has got her hands, fingers, and legs, toes, and feet down, and that shoes and socks go on her feet. Which she loves to pull her socks off to try and put them on by herself in only getting frustrated and bringing me her socks.

She LOVES to be outside with her hands in some form of water, even if it the dog's water bowl. She loves to go for bike rides, some days we take two bike rides, especially with this beautiful weather we are having in January. She loves rocks, crystal's, tumbled stones she will play with longer than any of her toys.

She wants to know what everything is, so she is asking and pointing to everything. And she does not miss a single thing. I have some essential oils with only their white tops showing she will spot them all the way across the room. She loves art, she has been helping me paint, and if I am not painting she will grab one of my brushes and put it on the canvas and then put it in the water.

She is still allergic to certain soaps, laundry detergent, and lotions, as well as Tylenol, and other un-natural products. Everything has got to natural, natural, natural. So I only use California Baby products on her, they seem to work the best. We are trying a new homeopathic teething product since Oralgel doesn't work, hasn't from the beginning seems to be working well or better than the tablets.

She is still breastfeeding, and likes juice, milk, and water. And eats a wide variety of food. Although I must say she loves her organic mac and cheese, brown rice noodles with sauce. What is it with kids and pasta?

Meow and Woof

Syra has learned that dogs go Woof woof, and our kitty cat Josie goes meow. It is cute to see her start woofing when the dogs start barking, and when she sees or hears Josie Syra also starts to meow.

On Christams Day...

Syra has been running a fever since the wee hours of the morning, poor Sy-sy hasn't been herself on Christmas. She has two teeth coming in, and they are not being very nice!

We did have a great evening last night with the extended fam. Syra actually did great for not feeling 100%. I loved her lil outfit she had on, too bad my camera died. I seriously need to get a second battery for backup.

She got some wonderful gifts and super cute clothes, so thank you! Merry Christmas to you....

What a week!

This week Syra has learned to

- high five
- stick out her tongue (she copies what you do, thanks Krista!)
- she can turn on her Baby Einstein videos all by herself
- she can now walk and hold on to things in both of her hands
- she understands the meaning of "hot" now, she flattens out her hand, and says hot then blows, it is pretty cute to see.
- she has got the smell thing down, you can hear her breathe in and out through her nose
- she knows where her/your eyes, nose, lips, ears, hair, and eyebrows are now. She will now point to them in books too. We are working on the chin and cheeks and forehead too
- and she understands I love you, come to find out there is a certain pitch that Denton and I say I love you to her, and she mimics the sound of it. SO that means to us she is saying I love you back to us.
- and she is starting to get the hang of waving "hi" and "bye"

Here she comes..

It is so cool seeing Syra come walking around the corner coming right at me with the biggest smile on her face. She has been walking all over the house, and outside. It has been amazing watching her get her confidence, and just go for it. She is so proud of herself when she gets to the destination she was going to. She isn't as wobbly now, and is walking everywhere. I just love it, of course it makes getting things done a bit harder now, but it is great. And my arms are grateful, (you should feel my arm muscles) I got major guns, haha.

Syra the Garden Fairy

I had these wings and all I could think about was doing a mini photo shoot with Syra. She had a blast and it was quick about 20 mins or so. I decided I had to share them, they are just too cute!

Just one of the reasons...

This is just one of the reasons, I am not giving Syra all the sugary sweets. First off sugar(s) does absolutely nothing for the digestive system, they don't have anything to offer but negatives. Second with the little kids, their bodies are much smaller than ours, making the impact of sugar greater with them. Three I have seen with my own eyes, the sooner you get them started on all the cake, ice cream, candies, etc., it just gets them addicted earlier in life, and the harder it is to break it later in life. I like to call them sugar fiends. Seriously once you introduce them to the refined sugars, it is like driving on the Audubon, once you get a taste of driving at that speed it is hard to drive at 65 mph.

I know that I am walking a fine line, not wanting to be a gestapo (which some think I am, which is fine), and knowing at some point she will be introduced to it. I want to teach her it is important what she chooses to put in her body when she can make that choice. I want her to be informed, and be able to make smart choices for herself. Denton and I were in agreement on this Syra does not need to eat these kinds of foods right now at this point in her life. And you should see how some people judge you so harshly! They sat things like - How can you not give her a cake for her 1st birthday to dig into?, how much can she really digest, it gets mostly smashed!?!

This video is very interesting, my brother in law sent it to me. High-Fructose Corn Syrup is in over 90% in our food that the FDA approves. This video has some great points, so instead of me listing them I posted it for you to watch. It is only about 7 mins long.

1st Birthday

Well, tomorrow is the big day for Syra, she will be turning one. I can't believe it, I can still remember a year ago being insanely pregnant, actually I was in active labor right now, haha good memories.

Denton and I tend to be a bit liberal, in a non-traditional way, we are not doing a 1st birthday party. We are going to skip all the people, the food, the birthday cake frosting, entertaining, cleaning the house, but we are not skipping the birthday celebration. And since Syra hasn't had cake, ice cream, candy or any "hard white refined sugars" I am not starting on her birthday. Whatever what other people may think, that kind of sugar does absolutely nothing for their systems, other than damage. Besides, I think that the 1st birthday party is more for the parents. I want to do the really fun birthday parties when Syra can truly enjoy it, pick out her birthday theme and what not. And maybe we will start making a tradition of going on a trip for Syra's birthday, how fun to look forward going away, and being able to pick your destination for your birthday?

We are going to go to Cambria, and stop in SLO, see the family there, and Syra's new baby cousin, Pepper born Nov 7th. Probably frolick on the beach, see the sea lions, and have fun.

Syra, the pumpkins & the pony rides

Syra LOVED going to the pumpkin patch!!! I think it was the pony rides, along with all the animals in the petting zoo. She had fun going up and down all the pumpkin rows, sitting with the pumpkins, she liked this white one, and all the wee ones too. We got to go back to the pumpkin patch because my Dad won a Ginmoranous Pumpkin with his raffle ticket. This thing was huge!!! If you had bought this pumpkin it would have cost over $75.00, and we won 4 scary house tickets. So Syra got to go on another pony ride, and well with her face in the picture you don't have to guess that she was enjoying her moment. While I found that the first time we went we bought some food to feed the animals and none of them wanted to eat! The second time we didn't buy food, and they were rushing us to eat as we made our way to the pony ride! Go figure...haha
